"Sentry Duty - One of the most important non-combat duties a Civil War soldier had to meet was sentry duty. Above, four 'soldiers' who participated in last week's re-enactment at Fort Gaines keep a sharp eye out for 'the enemy.' Since the fort was built on Dauphin Island, 'the enemy' obviously would approach from the sea."
